Counselor Experience

Katie has guided hundreds of student-athletes and students across the United States through the college admissions and recruiting processes since 2013. She works with student-athletes with a wide range of athletic and academic talent and has helped student-athletes secure roster spots at institutions across Div I, II and III. Katie and David Stoeckel created the first online training course for counselors who want to learn how to advise college-bound student-athletes. She mentors counselors who are new to athletic advising and provides a co-counseling program for those who want to work together in a partnership arrangement.

Why do you do this?

I enjoy advising families through this process to provide realistic expectations and guiding them towards programs that are a fit athletically, academically, and financially. After playing college soccer for 2 years, I hung up my cleats and chose to study abroad, work for the school newspaper and become an RA to make the most of my last 2 years in college. Being a student-athlete had a profound impact on my life. I speak candidly about my experiences and genuinely connect with my families about the importance of grit, sticking to their own plan, and making decisions with their eyes wide open.

“Katie provided thoughtful guidance to our son in exploring and prioritizing college options; and worked closely with him to ensure that all of his college contacts and admissions materials were of high quality and accurately reflected his character and interests.  She also served as a trusted counselor and calming influence as our son (and his parents!) experienced the natural anxiety associated with the highly competitive recruiting and admissions process.”
