Official Visit Questions

Official visits are defined by the NCAA as “any visit to a college campus by a college-bound student-athlete or his or her parents paid for by the college.” Prospective student-athletes should be prepared to ask good questions of the players they meet on their visit to gain the most insight about the team, coaching staff, academic, and social environment. By asking these questions, student-athletes demonstrate that they are serious about making an informed decision about their athletic and academic future and that the program aligns with their personal goals.

QUESTIONS:

  • What do you love most about being a part of this team and attending this school?

  • What advice would you give to a prospective student-athlete considering this program?

  • How do student-athletes manage their time effectively to excel in both academics and sports?

  • What is the intensity of training, hours of commitment, and other team obligations?

  • Is the coach interested in academic success?

  • How does the team get along?

  • How do the athletic department and the coaches prioritize the health and well-being of student-athletes?

  • How would you describe the team's culture and values?

  • What is the commitment to training in the off-season?

  • Do you live with teammates, other athletes, or regular students?

  • Why did you choose this program over the other places where you were being recruited?

After a visit, remember to write down your thoughts and impressions so you can compare notes later to other visits. Always remember to send a thank you note to the coaches and players who hosted you.
